Mar 02, 2020· Lot more interesting detail can be read , why would a car run better with the mass air flow sensor unplugged? Because either the sensor is reporting incorrect air amount and or air temperature to the ECU. By disconnecting the sensor the ECU switches to limp mode and the car may idle MAF sensor wires can be cleaned and some cannot as the wires are not easily …
The car might even run better than it did with a mass airflow sensor. If you notice that your car is misfiring, rough idling, or having a bad fuel mixture, it is recommended you unplug the MAF sensor. Once you unplug it, you can drive a bit and check whether it is still running as it should, or not.
2) Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF). If it runs fine with it unplugged its most likely your problem. Replace it with a new ACDelco unit or get an ACDelco from the junk yard. 3) Check fuel pressure and fuel pressure regulator valve. 4) Check coolant temp sensor. 5) Check crankshaft position sensor.
85,239 Answers. Re: runs better with mass air flow sensor unplugged. The fuel injection control computer (PCM) subsitures the Throttle Position Signal and other info from a system called FAILURE MODE STRATEGY, your MAF has failed and the computer has gone into the failure mode, this is how I quickly determine if a MAF is bad in the shop, just ...
May 14, 2020· Then, why would a car run better with the mass air flow sensor unplugged? Because either the sensor is reporting incorrect air amount and or air temperature to the ECU. By disconnecting the sensor the ECU switches to limp mode and the car may idle better. Some MAF sensor wires can be cleaned and some cannot as the wires are not easily accessible .
May 04, 2020· Correspondingly, why would a car run better with the mass air flow sensor unplugged? Because either the sensor is reporting incorrect air amount and or air temperature to the ECU. By disconnecting the sensor the ECU switches to limp mode and the car may idle better.
Jul 21, 2007· Reply to Dan's Post: I am pretty sure the mass air sensor is the problem. The car was running very bad. I unplugged the original one in the car, then the car runs fine. I went and found one of the same car in a junk yard that was smashed up so I at least have reason to believe the car was running god before it got wrecked.
The mass airflow sensor is unplugged to check whether various components are working fine. It’s true that in case of a faulty mass airflow sensor, unplugging it might make the car run better. But this is not a long-term arrangement you should rely on. The tables programmed into the computer contain values suited to a new engine.
We are going to look at driving with mass air flow sensor unplugged situation-ship and what will happen if the MAF sensor is unplugged. The main importance of the mass airflow sensor is that it measures the exact amount of air that the engine of a car needs for the car to transfer the proper measurement of gas into the engine.
Car stalls after starting, runs when MAF unplugged. The car will start and seems to run fine for a few seconds. It stalls and I can smell unburnt fuel in the exhaust. I suspected immobilizer and performed the lock and unlock with the key remote 5 times with no effect. I then suspected the MAF and unplugged it and it would star and run reliably.
Nov 26, 2018· Why would a car run better with the mass air flow sensor unplugged? The reason the car runs better without a MAF is because the ecu falls back to set values when sensors are unplugged. With the MAF missing it runs rich, since lean can trash the head/pistons.
The mass air flow (MAF) sensor, part of your vehicle’s electronic fuel injection system, is responsible for calculating the total amount of air entering the engine. A faulty MAF sensor can cause your vehicle to run too rich or run too lean. You’ll notice if the tailpipes eject black smoke or …
Nov 22, 2004· Yes You can drive the car with the MAF unplugged. The ECU will Use default values and use RPM and other things to compensate. In fact that is one of the test you can do to determine if the MAF is bad, if the car stumbles doesn't run right with it plugged in and maybe you have a 121 code, unplug it and if it runs OK then pretty sure bet the MAF is bad.
Aug 13, 2021· After unplugging the mass airflow sensor, if your car is running more smoothly, the computer is working fine, and so do the other sensors, you can assume an issue with your MAF sensor. In another scenario, if the car dies soon after removing the MAF sensor, there’s an issue with either the computer or other sensors.
Sep 08, 2010· Generally speaking, if a car runs better with the mass airflow sensor unplugged than with it plugged in, the mass airflow sensor has failed. However, the drifting idle tends to make me want to look for vacuum leaks and check the rear temperature sensor on the driver side of the head.
Feb 22, 2021· You know that your car will start and keep running even with the mass airflow sensor unplugged. In some cases, the vehicle might run even better if the mass airflow sensor is bad. On top of knowing what happens though when you disconnect it, you also know why you might want to disconnect it and also when to disconnect it.
Oct 28, 2008· i had the same problem with my buddy 91. when it was plugged in the car ran soo rich that it actually would kill the motor. took a little while to figure it out but the maf was bad and caused the plugs to foul. leav it disconnected and get a new one when u can it wont hurt it driving it around for a lil while like that just remember when the maf is unplugged the pcm cant tell how much air is ...
